Behind Closed Doors, an Unknown Entity Said NO to Ending Unanimity. Thank you, Slovakia!
The end of Unanimity and shift to majority voting would be an important breakthrough for "European democracy"™.
European leaders gathered behind closed doors for two days of "intensive discussions".
Result?
Paragraph 77 of the European Council conclusions merely takes note of the Commission's proposals and invites the Council to examine them further.
There is nothing Ursula von der Leyen cannot turn into a victory announcement.
"We have had a long and dense European Council," she informed her followers on X.
"After these two days of discussions, the way ahead is clearer."
"We will continue to deliver."
Indeed.
On energy, she proudly announced the release of oil reserves, more state aid, support for refineries and the historic achievement of postponing methane regulations by one year.
On the EU budget, she promised to maintain ambition and find new "own resources". The "own resources" are tired of her already.
Ukraine? More support, more defence, more money. Europe will step up, and so must everyone else.
No, we won't.
“Communism is Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country.”
Vladimir Lenin, 22 December 1920, Eighth All-Russia Congress of Soviets.
Game over, Ursula.
