A majority of the country already wants the coalition gone ASAP. So yes, one may understand that she needs to step up into new positions, as most of the failed Austrian politicians tend to do.

• Karl Nehammer resigned as chancellor and ÖVP leader in January 2025. By September he was vice-president of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, deciding on tens of billions in EU project money.
• Magnus Brunner left the finance ministry and became EU commissioner for home affairs and migration.
• Johannes Hahn spent a decade as commissioner and then became the EU’s special envoy for Cyprus.
• Pamela Rendi-Wagner left the SPÖ leadership and took the EU’s disease-control agency.
• Gerald Loacker is lined up for Austria’s seat at the European Court of Auditors.
