Austria’s Transparency – “The Epstein Pass That Never Happened” - Thanks to Strict GDPR

Why launch an investigation into how a convicted child sex offender obtained (or had made) an Austrian passport in the 1980s – a document later found in his safe alongside his little black book?

Simple: Jeffrey Epstein is dead. And more importantly, data protection.

The Green Justice spokesperson Alma Zadić has raised the obvious questions to the Ministers of Justice, Interior and Foreign Affairs – even though she herself was Justice Minister from 2020 to 2025 and apparently did not consider it necessary to look into the matter during her own term in office:

What was this passport used for?

Did Epstein travel to Austria with it?

Were there any Austrian connections in the broader “Epstein files”?

Not with us, the republic is keen on hiding it's secrets!

Justice Minister: Procedure discontinued – the man is no longer alive.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner: Personality protection applies, no administrative probe underway. We talked to the Americans, but details? Sorry, can’t say.

Foreign Minister: No information whatsoever.

“Personality protection” and data privacy rules make an excellent velvet curtain.

Why risk violating someone’s fundamental right to have their possible involvement in a global sex trafficking network kept confidential?

This is certainly not an indication that other people might have gotten Austrian passports as well.
