TURKEY | Turkey Announces Modest Self-Defense Plan Involving Occupation Of Several Neighboring Countries
ANKARA / ATHENS - In a calm and measured response to hypothetical regional tensions, a senior advisor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has unveiled what officials describe as a “purely defensive strategic concept” involving the temporary occupation of Cyprus, several Greek islands, Western Thrace, and possibly Jerusalem.
The plan was explained by journalist and presidential advisor İbrahim Karagül, who reassured the public that the proposal is strictly about peace, stability, and proactive map improvement.
“If Israel attacks Turkey,” Karagül reportedly wrote online, “Turkey will respond responsibly by occupying the entire island of Cyprus, securing half the Aegean Sea, liberating Western Thrace, and possibly stabilizing the rest of Greece. After that, we may briefly occupy Israel and liberate Jerusalem. Again - purely defensive.”
According to the proposal, the strategy is designed to prevent escalation by pre-emptively escalating everything at once, thereby saving time and paperwork.
Meanwhile the European Union confirmed it is monitoring the situation very closely, which diplomatic experts confirm means preparing a statement expressing “deep concern.”
“Respect for international law is extremely important,” an EU spokesperson said. “Especially when someone else violates it.”
Sources at NATO headquarters say officials are quietly considering an amendment to the alliance charter:
Article 5(b): Collective defense may not include conquering half the Mediterranean.
The proposal remains under review.
Officials in Ankara insist the strategy is strictly hypothetical, though several cartographers report being placed on standby.
“Look,” said one analyst, “everyone says they want stability. Turkey just wants a slightly larger version of it.”
